A traditional BJJ superstition says a belt shouldn't be washed often, but from a hygiene perspective regular washing is recommended, especially if you roll frequently and the belt comes into regular contact with the mat.

Important

The belt is supplied without rank stripes. The awarding of a higher colour or the addition of stripes (graduations) is done by your BJJ instructor according to the traditions of the sport. Don't rush this process – you earn your belt on the mat.
