In fact, there is no simple answer to this question. It depends on many factors which gloves best suit you. We have therefore listed the advantages and disadvantages for each type of glove. View it below!
(Kick) boxing gloves
Starting with the 'standard' boxing gloves. Always equipped with a Velcro (or lace) closure, a fixed thumb piece and a padding filled with foam or foam. These boxing gloves are always available in multiple sizes, expressed in OZ (ounce). This indicates the weight of the boxing gloves, but the size of the boxing gloves also changes. In this blog you can read more about choosing the right size boxing gloves.
Advantages:
- The foam padding absorbs the biggest blow, which causes less impact on your hands and wrists
- Through the fixed thumb part you make a better fist in the gloves and there is less chance of getting the boxing bag wrong with, for example, your thumb
- You can intensify your boxing bag Workout by choosing a heavier boxing glove of, for example, 16 or 18 oz
Cons:
- Boxing gloves are often slightly more expensive to purchase than, for example, MMA gloves and boxing bag gloves
- Because your hand is 'locked up' in the glove and you sweat more, it takes longer for the gloves to be dry after training

MMA gloves
MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Gloves are made to be able to practice any type of martial arts. MMA starts in the standing fight, but struggling and BJJ are also widely used. With MMA gloves it is therefore necessary to have a lot of freedom of movement. This way your fingers are always loose in the gloves and you can easily move.
Advantages:
- The gloves are light and are a good outcome with fast bump combinations (between 4 oz and 8 oz)
- Due to the freedom of movement of MMA gloves, it is possible to work with a kettlebell or dumbells during your boxing bag workout, for example
- MMA gloves are maintenance -friendly and dry quickly after training
Cons:
- Because you have so much freedom of movement, it is more difficult to make a fist and the chance to get any injuries during bumps
- The thin padding ensures that the impact on your fists, hands and wrists is greater than, for example, boxing gloves
- The padding of MMA gloves comes just over your knuckles, so you get open spaces faster on your fingers due to the friction of the boxing bag

Punching bag gloves
Boxing bag gloves are specially made for use on the boxing bag. These gloves have less padding and no fixed thumbs, so that the gloves are lighter and can be used well for fast bumps.
Advantages:
- The boxing bag gloves are light and therefore well suited for fast bump combinations
- Compared to regular boxing gloves, the special bag gloves are cheaper to purchase
Cons:
- Boxing bag gloves can only be used for the boxing bag and are not suitable for use during sparring and pad training
- By saving on weight you also have less protection around your fists and thumb with bag gloves

Inner gloves
In view of the price, inner gloves often seem an easy choice. However, we do not recommend these gloves for the boxing bag. These gloves are made to wear under regular boxing gloves and do not offer the necessary protection for training on a boxing bag.
